How To

How To Get The Most From Your NorthburN Candle

This is the most important factor in getting the most out of your NorthburN candle, but also in keeping your candle as safe as it can be. By keeping your wick trimmed you are reducing the amount of soot your candle produces, which will give you a steady even flame. By trimming your wick you will also get more burning hours out of your candle, as a large flame will use up the wax much quicker.

When lighting your candle for the first time, leave it burning long enough so the melted wax reaches the edge of your container.  This will set the memory of your wax and ensure a nice even burn, with no wasted wax left at the side of your container.

You should should trim your wick each time you go to light your candle.

Your NorthburN home candles should not be burnt for longer than 4 hours, this stops your candle getting too hot and ensures the beautiful blended fragrance is not compromised.

Your NorthburN votive candles should not be burnt for longer than 2 hours, they are a much smaller candle and can get hot quicker, please ensure you follow the guidelines given above about keeping your candle wick trimmed and burning your candle on a heat resistant surface.  We recommend using candle plates.

We recommend you do not 'blow' out your candle, either use your candle lid to extingush, use a candle snuffer or a wick dipper. If you do not have a wick dipper we suggest using a spoon to bend the wick gently in to the melted wax and then straighten. By dipping the wick in the wax you elimiated smoke and keep your candle fragrance in the room. Also by re-coating the wick with wax makes the candle easier to relight.

How to use NorthburN Wax Melts

Depending on the size of your room we recommend putting 2 heart wax melts in the top of your burner.

Once the fragrance starts to diminish DO NOT add a further wax melt! You need to remove the wax in the burner and then replace with a further 2 fresh wax hearts from your pack.

To remove the wax from your burner we suggest doing so once the wax has hardened. To remove once hardened, simply pop a lit tealight under the burner for around 30 seconds, the heat from the tealight will gently melt the outside of the wax which you can then dispose of and replace with your fresh wax melts.

2 hearts should give you around 10 hours fragrance.

Candle Safety

  • As beautiful and romantic as candle light is, this is a naked flame and the utmost care should be taken to ensure the experience remains serene and relaxing.
  • Never leave a candle or any flame unattended, something like a draft could quickly create a dangerous situation.
  • ALWAYS extingush your candle before going to bed, follow our extingush tips (listed above).
  • Never burn candles near curtains, curtains or under a shelf.
  • Place candles on a heat resistant surface, your chrome lid from your home candle can be used as protective surface, we recommend using candle plates.
  • Keep your wick trimmed!
  • Always keep candles out of the reach of children and pets.
  • If you are burning more than one candle please keep them a minimum of 15cm apart. Burning candles too close can result in overheating, not getting an even burn or your wick subsiding.
  • Although tempting, please do not burn your candle all the way down to the base. Please leave 7-10mm in the container. Failure to do so can result in your container cracking, your flame getting too large and becoming dangerous and overheating.
